West London council starts work on affordable housing schemes

Construction work has started to go ahead on a series of affordable housing projects in the far west of London.

The projects are underway in Hayes, West Drayton and Yeading as a result of Hillingdon Council raising £8 million in funding for the 97 new homes that are to be rented out.

In addition to the new homes, Hayes’ Triscott House is being developed into a care scheme home for older people. The project comprises of 47 flats. The development of this scheme is expected to create construction jobs in the local area as well as several apprenticeships.

Councillor Phillip Corthorne stated, “The new housing projects in the borough will benefit residents, especially the improvements being made to Triscott House which reaffirms Hillingdon Council’s commitment to providing care and support for the elderly in the borough.”

The news of these projects has further backed up predictions that house building is on the up once more. Recent figures show that new housing starts grew by 13 per cent during the second quarter of the year, while construction work by social landlords increased by an impressive 17 per cent.
