Cosmetic treatments lead to increase in clinical negligence cases

Lawyers have been increasingly reporting cases of clinical negligence on the part of cosmetic surgeons.

The increase has added weight to calls for a review of the industry’s rules and regulations. With the growing popularity of procedures such as Botox injections and lip enhancements, the treatments are increasingly viewed as routine and are sometimes offered in salons by staff who are not as qualified as they perhaps should be.

As a result, more and more people are disappointed or injured by their treatments and are going to clinical negligence lawyers to sue their practitioners.

One lawyer explains how a common complaint is of a hard lump in the lips or cheeks after a filler injection treatment. Some people have been left with scarring after having these lumps removed. Others claim their Botox has been injected in to the wrong part of their face or that they have been burned by laser treatments.

The Independent Healthcare Advisory Service is now working with the Department of Health to issue a new set of rules, which includes a new registration policy for people offering these kinds of treatments.  However, critics claim these new rules will still not go far enough to protect the public.
